Helping the Ozarks' Vulnerable populations prepare for disaster and emergency.
COVER Ozarks
COVER Ozarks is an organization devoted to helping build a resilient and empowered community by preparing our diverse population for emergencies and disasters.
What We Do
COVER Ozarks (Community Organizations for Vulnerable Emergency Recovery) is an alliance of organizations who serve vulnerable populations in Greene County, Missouri. Our mission is to help one another--and the communities we serve--find better ways to survive and thrive before, during, and after disasters.
Our members recognize that not all services distribute equally among diverse communities. We primarily focus on improving communication and education. In a disaster, clear communication is essential. Existing methods of connecting to the public may not reach across language, financial, cultural, physical, mental, and emotional barriers. We want to find communication strategies that take those barriers into account. We also want to educate the public on disaster preparedness in effective ways that reach every person in Greene County and remain relevant to every community.
COVER Ozarks is a subcommittee of Greene County COAD (Community Organizations Active in Disasters). COAD is a local group of public, private, and non-government organizations with the focus of assuring the most complete recovery for Greene County following a disaster.
Petra Nemcova (Happy Hearts Fund)
"We cannot stop natural disasters but we can arm ourselves with knowledge: so many lives wouldn't have to be lost if there was enough disaster preparedness."
